Calamba City, Laguna – The Police Regional Office CALABARZON (PRO4A), under the leadership of Regional Director PBGEN Paul Kenneth T. Lucas, successfully seized illegal firecrackers worth ₱1.4 million during an intensified campaign from December 18 to 30, 2024.

A total of 19,611 firecrackers, including 15,825 assorted items and 3,786 “BOGA” devices, were confiscated through rigorous inspections, community partnerships, and operations targeting unlicensed sellers and manufacturers. In an effort to further ensure safety, PBGEN Lucas ordered the simultaneous destruction of the seized items across various Police Provincial Offices.

“This operation, in compliance with RA 7183, has led to the arrest and filing of charges against individuals involved in the illegal firecracker trade,” PBGEN Lucas stated.

The campaign’s impact is evident in the significant drop in illegal firecracker-related incidents, with only 15 cases reported this year compared to 273 during the same period in 2023—a 94% decrease.

“This drastic decline reflects the effectiveness of our intensified efforts and the cooperation of our communities,” Lucas said. He urged the public to support safer celebrations, including community fireworks displays organized by local government units.

As the New Year approaches, PRO4A continues its vigilance, encouraging the public to report any illegal activities through its hotlines and social media platforms. “Let us welcome 2025 safely because in Bagong Pilipinas, the PNP aims for the safety of everyone,” Lucas added.
