60-Year-Old Mechanic Arrested for Traffic Violations, Resistance, and Illegal Drugs in Caloocan

Caloocan City, January 11, 2024 – In an early morning operation, authorities arrested 60-year-old John Albiz y Hipolito for multiple violations, including traffic infractions, resistance to lawful orders, and possession of dangerous drugs.

The arrest occurred at around 2:45 AM at Alat Bridge, Quirino Highway, the boundary of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, and Barangay 185, Caloocan City. Personnel from the Northern Police District-District Mobile Force Battalion (NPD-DMFB) were conducting Oplan Sita when they flagged down Albiz, who was riding a black Honda Beat motorcycle without a helmet.

The Incident
Instead of complying, Albiz sped off, hitting PCpl Ofalia in an attempt to evade arrest. He lost control of his motorcycle and collided with the Oplan Sita signage, resulting in the spill of a sling bag he was carrying. The bag contained two sachets of suspected shabu and Php 1,600 in cash.

Upon further inspection, officers found four additional sachets of suspected shabu inside the bag, bringing the total to six sachets weighing approximately 28 grams. The recovered illegal substances have an estimated street value of Php 190,400.

Additionally, the sling bag contained Php 900 in various denominations, making the total cash confiscated Php 2,500. Albiz also failed to present a valid driver’s license and only produced an expired official receipt for his motorcycle.

Charges Filed
Albiz is now under police custody and faces charges for the following:

Traffic violation for not wearing a helmet.

Resistance and disobedience to an agent of authority (Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code).

Violation of Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).

The Evidence
Police recovered the following items from Albiz:

Six heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, weighing 28 grams.

Cash amounting to Php 2,500.

The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of local authorities to enforce traffic laws and crack down on illegal drug activities. Albiz remains in custody as further investigations continue.
