Caloocan City – Authorities from the East Bagong Silang Police Sub-station 13 apprehended a suspect, identified as JOEL BARRETA y CAMPOS, 47, for violations of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) and Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The arrest occurred on January 11, 2025 (Saturday) at around 11:50 PM during an anti-criminality and foot patrol operation at Phase 7C, Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Police personnel reportedly observed a group of individuals in the act of exchanging and examining what appeared to be illegal drugs. As officers approached, the group scattered, but they managed to apprehend the suspect, JOEL BARRETA, a jobless resident of No. 1066 Ilang Ilang Street, Malaria, Barangay 185, Tala, Caloocan City.

Confiscated during the operation was approximately 1.5 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of PhP 10,200.00. The suspect’s cohort managed to escape and remains at large.

The suspect is now in police custody, facing charges for possession of dangerous drugs under RA 9165 and resistance to authority under Article 151 of the RPC. The confiscated substance has been forwarded to the crime laboratory for confirmatory testing.

The police continue to intensify anti-drug operations to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in the community.
