Man Arrested in Caloocan for Anti-Smoking Violation, Resisting Arrest and Drug possession

Caloocan City, January 15, 2025 – A 38-year-old ceiling installer was apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday for multiple violations, including possession of illegal drugs, resisting arrest, and violating the city’s anti-smoking ordinance.

At approximately 1:50 a.m., officers PCpl Aries H. Buenaobra and Pat James Rucker V. Mojica of the Amparo Police Sub-Station 15 were conducting a mobile patrol along Macabod Street in Barangay 179 when they spotted the suspect, identified as Michael Manangan y Castillo, smoking in a public area.

When approached by the officers to issue an Ordinance Violation Receipt (OVR), Manangan reportedly fled. A brief chase ensued, ending in his apprehension. During a search, officers discovered a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing 4.6 grams of a crystalline substance suspected to be shabu, valued at Php 31,280.

The suspect, a resident of Magnolia Street, Barangay 174, now faces charges for violating Section 11, Article II of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority), and the local anti-smoking ordinance.

The recovered substance has been submitted for laboratory examination, and authorities are preparing formal charges against the suspect. The Caloocan Police continue to emphasize their commitment to enforcing laws and ordinances to ensure public safety.
