Antipolo City – Two male suspects involved in a “rent-tangay” car theft scheme were arrested by the Rizal Provincial Highway Patrol Team and Antipolo Component City Police Station on Tuesday evening, January 14, 2025, at Sitio Tanza 1, Brgy. San Jose. The stolen van was also recovered during the operation.

According to a report received by Police Colonel Felipe B. Maraggun, Provincial Director, the incident began on January 12, 2025. The victim, the owner of the van, met the suspects at NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City. The suspects rented the vehicle, claiming it would be used for a wedding in Batangas. They presented a driver’s license and agreed to return the van on January 13, 2025, at 9:00 PM.

However, the suspects failed to return the van and became unreachable. Using the vehicle’s GPS, the victim located its position and sought help from authorities.

At around 6:58 PM on January 14, police officers arrived at the identified location and noticed several dismantled vehicles inside a compound. Accompanied by barangay personnel, the officers secured permission to enter the premises, where they found various car parts and positively identified the stolen van.

Two suspects, identified as “Alias Bads,” 28, from Occidental Mindoro, and “Alias Josh,” 20, from Quezon City, were arrested while attempting to load chopped vehicle parts into an L300 van. The operatives also recovered multiple keys matching the compound’s gates.

The suspects are now in custody at the Antipolo Component City Police Station, while other individuals involved in the scheme remain at large. Authorities are conducting inquest proceedings for violations of R.A. 10883, or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.

The investigation continues as police intensify efforts to track down additional suspects linked to this criminal operation.
