Father Holds 1-Year-Old Daughter Hostage in Taytay, Rescued by Police in Tense Negotiation

A one-year-old girl was successfully rescued after being held hostage by her father on C6 Road, Taytay, Rizal, last night. The harrowing incident, livestreamed on social media, caused widespread alarm among the public.

The suspect, identified as “Alyas Vin,” 26, was seen in the video holding his daughter, “Alyas Athena,” while armed with a karambit knife.

Swift action by the Taytay Municipal Police Station (MPS), led by Rizal Police Provincial Director PCOL Felipe B. Maraggun, along with PLTCOL Marlon Solero and local officials, ensured a peaceful resolution to the crisis. Known for his expertise in handling sensitive situations, PCOL Maraggun played a key role in the negotiation. Through coordinated efforts and effective communication, the suspect was convinced to surrender and release the child unharmed.

“The incident stemmed from a family issue, but we are grateful it ended without injuries. Prompt and proper handling of the situation was crucial to ensuring everyone’s safety,” stated PCOL Maraggun.

The suspect now faces charges under RA 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004), Alarms and Scandal, and Illegal Possession of Bladed Weapons. Meanwhile, “Alyas Athena” is safe and has been returned to her family.

“Alyas Vin” remains in the custody of Taytay MPS for proper documentation and legal proceedings.
