Firearms Cache Uncovered in Camarines Norte: Authorities Seize High-Powered Weapons and Explosives

February 13, 2025 – A joint counterinsurgency operation led by the Philippine Army (PA) and supported by the PNP Special Action Force (SAF) resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of firearms and explosives in Sitio Sugsugin, Brgy. Baay, Labo, Camarines Norte.

The operation, spearheaded by COLT 161 and 163 operatives, the Company Intelligence Team (CIT), and the Mobile Community Support Sustainment Team (MCSST), was carried out based on intelligence provided by a former communist terrorist group (CTG) member. Personnel from 91SAC, 9th Special Action Battalion, PNP SAF provided tactical support during the mission.

Authorities recovered a large stockpile of weapons, including:

Four M16 A1 rifles (5.56mm)

One M14 rifle (7.62mm)

One M1 carbine rifle (7.62mm)

Five improvised explosive devices (IEDs)

Seven improvised hand grenades

Nine improvised switches for IEDs

Four rolls of detonating cord

50 blasting caps

The 16th Infantry Battalion (16IB), 2nd Infantry Division (2ID), PA has taken custody of the recovered weapons and explosives for proper documentation and disposal.

This successful operation underscores the steadfast commitment of the Philippine Army, PNP SAF, and law enforcement units in dismantling insurgent threats and ensuring public safety in the region. Authorities continue to urge remaining insurgents to surrender and support efforts toward lasting peace.
