Manhunt Underway: Former Inmate Stabs 2 PNP Officers During Routine Patrol in Caloocan

CALOOCAN CITY – A routine police visibility operation turned violent late last night when a suspect allegedly stabbed two police officers from the Sta. Quiteria Police Substation 6 during a routine patrol in the Libis Baesa area.

According to the incident report, at approximately 10:45 p.m. on February 13, 2025, officers Pat Mark Angelo Araneta y Valencia (27) and Pat Brutus Ghaly Palmenco y Julian (25), both active PNP personnel, encountered Raphael Rodaje y Tulilis, a 39-year-old male garbage collector, in violation of a local ordinance for smoking in public without proper attire. When the officers attempted to issue an OVR ticket for the infraction, the suspect allegedly drew an ice pick from his right pocket and attacked them.

The ensuing confrontation left both officers injured, prompting an immediate response as they were rushed to Caloocan City Medical Center for treatment. The suspect, identified as a former inmate with a history of illegal drug-related offenses, fled the scene heading toward the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and remains at large.

Authorities have confirmed that investigators continued gathering information until about 4:00 a.m. on February 14, 2025, and a follow-up operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the suspect. Law enforcement officials are also coordinating with the IDMS-South unit as part of their intensified manhunt.

The police are urging any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward as they intensify efforts to secure the suspect’s capture. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
