President Marcos Inspects CALAX Governor’s Drive Interchange, Highlights Infrastructure Commitment

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Governor’s Drive Interchange, reaffirming the administration’s dedication to improving the country’s road network. The visit underscores the government’s priority on infrastructure projects that enhance economic growth and ease transportation challenges.

Accompanied by key officials, including Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vivencio B. Dizon, and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic C. Remulla, the President assessed the progress of this crucial expressway. Local leaders, such as Cavite Governor Athena D. Tolentino and General Trias Mayor Luis “Jonjon” A. Ferrer, also joined the inspection, alongside Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) executives led by Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

CALAX, spanning 44.6 kilometers with four lanes, is a game-changer for connectivity between Cavite and Laguna—two provinces that host major economic zones and industrial parks. Once fully completed, the expressway is expected to decongest traffic in key routes while supporting business growth and tourism in the region.

A major focus of the inspection was the Governor’s Drive Interchange, which is currently 44% complete. Set for full operation by the third quarter of 2025, this segment is poised to significantly ease congestion on Governor’s Drive and provide smoother access to major commercial and industrial hubs.

Upon full completion, CALAX will help decongest critical roadways such as Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, and Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road. It is projected to cut travel time between the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) by approximately 45 minutes, benefiting around 95,000 motorists daily. This improved road network is expected to boost trade and investment opportunities across CALABARZON.

The expressway is already partially operational, with existing entry and exit points at Mamplasan, Laguna Boulevard, Laguna Technopark, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Silang East, and Silang Aguinaldo. These segments have already helped alleviate congestion in Laguna and Cavite, setting the stage for further improvements once the Governor’s Drive Interchange opens.

Aside from CALAX, MPTC continues to expand its infrastructure projects nationwide, holding concession rights for major expressways such as the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), NLEX Connector Road, and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX). These projects align with the government’s broader goal of enhancing connectivity and economic growth.

With President Marcos Jr.’s strong push for infrastructure development, the CALAX project exemplifies how strategic investments in road networks can drive regional progress. As construction progresses, the project is expected to bring lasting economic benefits, making travel more efficient and supporting businesses across Southern Luzon.
