Philippines — The Philippine entertainment industry mourns the passing of one of its most iconic figures, Pilita Corrales, who died on April 12, 2025, at the age of 85.

Known as Asia’s Queen of Songs, Corrales enchanted generations of Filipinos with her golden voice, elegant poise, and unmatched artistry. Her passing was confirmed by her granddaughter, award-winning actress Janine Gutierrez, who shared a heartfelt tribute to the woman she called “a light in all our lives.”

Corrales rose to fame with unforgettable hits such as “A Million Thanks to You” and “Kapantay ay Langit”, and became a beloved figure on stage and television, famously known for her graceful backbend during live performances. Over the span of nearly seven decades, she not only brought Filipino music to the world stage but also helped shape the sound of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

Tributes have poured in from fans and fellow artists. Veteran actress Charo Santos remembered her as a “true legend who inspired generations with elegance and strength,” while actor Jericho Rosales shared a touching video of his mother singing Corrales’ classic “Ang Pipit” in her honor.

In 2024, Pilita Corrales received the inaugural Billboard Philippines Women in Music Icon Award, solidifying her status as a pioneer and cultural treasure. A documentary about her life, produced by Janine Gutierrez and directed by Baby Ruth Villarama, is currently in development and is expected to give audiences a deeper look into the life of the woman behind the voice that touched millions.

As the country bids farewell to a true icon, Pilita Corrales leaves behind not only a rich musical legacy but also a life filled with grace, strength, and love — a life that continues to inspire.
