OSAKA, JAPAN — The Philippine Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka is off to a remarkable start, drawing 40,252 visitors within just the first nine days since it opened to the public on April 13. The overwhelming turnout signals a triumphant debut for the country on the world stage, according to Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.

“This is more than an exhibition—it is a movement of culture, connection, and creativity that brings the Philippines to the world in an unprecedented way,” said Frasco. “The remarkable turnout is a resounding affirmation of the strength of our story, the power of our people, and the beauty of our culture. It is a proud moment for all Filipinos.”

One of the Pavilion’s early notable visitors was Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums. Visiting on the Pavilion’s second day, she toured the entire exhibit, expressing admiration for its innovative fusion of tradition and technology. Moved by the storytelling and intricate design, the Sheikha reportedly considered commissioning a similar piece, highlighting the Pavilion’s strong emotional and artistic impact.

With the theme “Nature, Culture, and Community: Woven Together for a Better Future,” the Pavilion has quickly gained recognition as a must-see destination at the Expo. Its stunning façade features 212 handwoven fabrics representing the Philippines’ diverse regions, while its immersive, tech-powered installations take visitors on a multisensory journey through Filipino identity.

A standout feature is the interactive exhibit “Dancing with Nature,” which transforms guests into dynamic elements of the natural world using light, sound, and motion. Daily live performances by artists from the Cultural Center of the Philippines further enrich the experience, offering authentic displays of rhythm, heritage, and Filipino warmth.

“The TPB team is working tirelessly to ensure that every guest feels the true warmth of Filipino hospitality,” said Maria Margarita Nograles, Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the DOT’s marketing arm. “We want visitors to leave inspired to discover the Philippines for themselves—because at the heart of our country is our greatest strength: our people.”

As of this writing, thousands continue to visit the Pavilion daily. The space stands not only as a showcase of Filipino artistry and culture but also as a symbol of the Philippines’ commitment to sustainable tourism, inclusive growth, and cultural diplomacy.

“This Pavilion is our invitation to the world—to feel our hospitality, be awed by our islands, and connect with the soul of our people. We welcome everyone to experience why there is every reason to Love the Philippines,” Frasco added.

More attractions are set to launch in the coming weeks, including the Hilot Wellness Space, the Habi Gift Shop in May, and the Pavilion mascot Kokoro-chan, promising even more reasons for guests to immerse themselves in the Filipino story at Expo 2025 Osaka. (DOT)
