Calambeños Reject Call for Debate, Praise Mayor Ross Rizal’s Track Record Ahead of 2025 Elections

As former Mayor Timmy Chipeco challenges incumbent Mayor Ross Rizal to a public debate ahead of the 2025 elections, majority of Calambeños have voiced strong opposition, saying that the people no longer need mere words—they want results.

“He’s asking for a debate, but he’s only good at speaking and lacks action. Enough is enough. You’ve held Calamba for almost 2 decade—both in the LGU and in Congress—and all we saw were words, self-promotion, and personal interests,” said a concerned citizen from Calamba.

Another resident shared, “Why debate? The people already know what’s happening. We don’t need more talk; we need genuine care that people can actually feel. Words are no longer enough. People today are smarter—when they get tired of empty promises, no amount of talking will help.”

The current administration, led by Mayor Ross Rizal, Vice Mayor Totie Lazaro, and Congresswoman Cha Hernandez, has gained the trust and admiration of Calambeños across all age groups. Their leadership has been marked by visible progress—completing major infrastructure projects such as the Calamba Coliseum, the new Slaughterhouse, and the much-awaited hospital, which were left unfinished by previous administrations.

More recently, the city has seen continuous development, including the construction of a new dialysis center, public high schools in several barangays, housing projects, and many more initiatives that directly benefit residents for only a short period of 3 years.

Calamba has also earned numerous awards under Mayor Rizal’s leadership—thanks to his tireless work ethic. Known for starting his day at 6 a.m. and even welcoming constituents in his home before heading to the office, Rizal’s dedication stands in sharp contrast to former officials who are criticized for arriving late or being absent.

One more Calambeño expressed it simply: “We don’t need a debate. What matters is what has been done in the past and what’s being done now. Let the people decide. All we ask is respect.”

As election season approaches, it seems that the people of Calamba are speaking clearly: actions speak louder than words.
