Freedom with Dignity: Mayor Ross Rizal Inspires Calambeños on the 127th Philippine Independence Day

Calamba City, Laguna – June 12, 2025 — During the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration in Calamba City Hall, Calamba City, Laguna, Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal reignited the spirit of patriotism and unity among Calambeños, reminding them that freedom is both a precious legacy and a living responsibility.

“Isang maka-Diyos, maka-Rizal, at mapagpalayang araw po sa ating lahat!” Mayor Rizal greeted a crowd of local officials, civic leaders, students, and residents who gathered to honor the nation’s historic struggle for freedom.

“This gathering is not just to remember a date in history,” the mayor said, “but to reflect on, enrich, and continue the noble heritage of our ancestors—our freedom.” He emphasized that the country’s independence did not come easily but was earned through the blood, sweat, and sacrifice of Filipino heroes—men and women who chose courage over fear, honor over self-interest, and what is right over what is easy.

Mayor Rizal called this hard-won freedom a “treasure entrusted to us by past generations,” born from moral conviction, and one that citizens today must protect—if necessary, even fight and die for.

As the hometown of national hero Dr. José Rizal, Calamba holds a unique place in Philippine history. Mayor Rizal invoked the memory of Rizal, saying that true freedom stems from knowledge, discipline, and love of country. He also reaffirmed the city’s vision to remain a historically grounded, inclusive, just, and compassionate community.

“Our path forward is through meaningful reform and real change,” he stated, referencing his administration’s governance mantra of “Ramdam na Reporma.” He outlined a vision of Calamba as a city with a strong economy, balanced natural resources, and a safe, healthy, and God-fearing community under a government that is accountable and filled with integrity.

“For every Calambeño and every Filipino,” Mayor Rizal concluded, “freedom is not only remembered or celebrated—it is lived. Because the sweetest form of liberty is one lived by a nation with dignity, hope, and both material and moral progress.”

The event concluded with cultural performances, wreath-laying ceremonies, and renewed calls for patriotism, echoing the enduring legacy of the heroes who shaped the nation’s destiny.
