Education Secretary Angara Inspects Laguna Schools on First Day of Classes, Pledges Classroom Solutions

Biñan City, Laguna — June 17, 2025 — On the first day of School Year 2025–2026, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara visited Biñan Secondary School of Applied Academics (SSAA) in Biñan City, Laguna—his third school stop for the day.

During the visit, Secretary Angara engaged in consultations with teachers, school officials, General Parents and Teachers Association (GPTA) representatives, and school heads from nearby institutions. The dialogue highlighted one of the most pressing issues faced by the school community: the critical shortage of classrooms.

Joining Angara in the school inspection and dialogue were Biñan City’s outgoing Mayor and Congressman-elect Arman Dimaguila Jr., incoming Mayor Gel Alonte, and Congresswoman Len Alonte. Secretary Angara emphasized the need for immediate collaboration between national and local governments to address the shortage, especially through identifying and utilizing buildable spaces for new classroom construction.

“This visit is part of our goal to build stronger coordination between the Department of Education and our local governments,” Angara said. “We need to act quickly to match the rapid growth of the student population with the appropriate infrastructure.”

Following his stop in Biñan, Secretary Angara proceeded to Central III Elementary School in Sta. Rosa City as part of his continued effort to assess school readiness and address on-the-ground concerns during the nationwide class opening.

Angara’s school visits reflect his commitment to responsive governance in education, with a focus on providing adequate facilities and strengthening partnerships with local stakeholders to deliver quality learning environments for Filipino students.
