DTI Strengthens MSME Support in Laguna: Calamba Hosts Regional Town Hall for Inclusive Growth

— Though Trade Secretary Cristina A. Roque was unable to attend personally, the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) commitment to empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) was strongly reinforced during Day 2 of the Secretary’s Regional Visit, held at the Jose Rizal Coliseum in Calamba City. Representing the Secretary was Undersecretary and Supervising Head of DTI-Regional Operations Group (ROG), Blesila A. Lantayona.

Calamba City Mayor Roseller “Ross” Rizal emphasized the city’s full support for MSMEs, noting that DTI’s initiatives significantly contribute to making Calamba a more business-friendly environment. “We welcome these efforts as vital to nurturing our local entrepreneurs and boosting inclusive economic growth,” Mayor Rizal stated during his message.

The day’s centerpiece was a Town Hall Meeting, serving as an open forum for dialogue between national government officials and Laguna-based MSMEs, innovators, and local leaders. DTI representatives shared updates on strategic priorities, available support programs, and successful local business models, while also hearing firsthand the challenges faced by entrepreneurs on the ground.

In the afternoon, the DTI delegation visited key industrial firms in Laguna, including high-tech and automotive manufacturing facilities that are essential to both local employment and global supply chains. These visits underscored the government’s ongoing support for foreign investments, green manufacturing practices, and strengthening the country’s industrial competitiveness.

The final leg of the visit brought DTI leaders to a community-based innovation hub in Canlubang, where local startups, co-working initiatives, and digital MSMEs are thriving. This stop highlighted the importance of grassroots innovation and the need for government support in areas such as digital transformation and e-commerce adoption.

Undersecretary Lantayona reiterated the Department’s commitment to fostering partnerships at all levels, saying, “We are here not just to deliver services, but to listen, learn, and collaborate. Secretary Roque’s vision is clear: no MSME, no community, and no region should be left behind.”

With Laguna serving as a key economic driver in CALABARZON, the DTI’s presence and programs aim to ensure that progress reaches every corner of the business community—from local startups to global industry players.
