China Bans Former Senator Francis Tolentino; He Calls Sanction a ‘Badge of Honor’

Philippines — China has imposed sanctions against former Philippine Senator Francis Tolentino, barring him from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao due to what it described as his “egregious conduct” on China-related matters.

The announcement came just a day after Tolentino’s term as senator officially ended. A spokesperson from China’s foreign ministry declared the sanctions, asserting that the Chinese government would resolutely safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests in the face of criticism from “anti-China politicians” in the Philippines.

In response, Tolentino embraced the sanction, calling it a mark of his dedication to the nation.

> “This sanction is a badge of honor and a testament to my unwavering commitment to protect our national interest and our people’s dignity,” the former senator said.

Tolentino has been an outspoken figure on issues involving Philippine sovereignty, particularly concerning territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea. The move by China is seen by some as a signal to other Philippine officials who have taken strong stances against Chinese actions in the region.

Despite the ban, Tolentino remains firm in his position, stating that no foreign pressure will deter his advocacy for Philippine sovereignty.
