Mayor Ross Rizal Halts Risky Developments to Protect Calamba’s Future: Mountain and Waterway Safeguards Enforced

Calamba City, Laguna — Taking decisive action to protect the environment and enhance the city’s resilience to disasters, Calamba City Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal led a strategic meeting with department heads of the City Government and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to bolster Calamba’s comprehensive development initiatives.

The meeting resulted in the immediate suspension of subdivision developments in Brgy. Pansol and the imposition of a moratorium on all development activities in the mountainous areas of Barangay Pansol, Bucal, and Bagong Kalsada. The decision aims to prevent environmental degradation, landslides, and flooding, while ensuring safer, well-planned urban expansion.

“Our priority is a safer and more sustainable Calamba. We cannot allow unchecked developments that pose risks to our communities,” Mayor Rizal stated.

Among the key measures also discussed and set in motion were:

The removal of illegal structures obstructing drainage systems, creeks, and rivers.

Desilting and declogging operations to restore natural water flow and reduce flood risk.

Crackdowns on indiscriminate garbage disposal in waterways.

Mayor Rizal also emphasized that the city government is working on enhancing other crucial services, including:

Streamlining the processing of permits for businesses and construction.

Reinforcing the city’s flood control infrastructure.

Improving traffic management and waste management systems.

“These initiatives are part of our long-term vision for a resilient and progressive Calamba. This is not just about development—this is about responsible, inclusive, and forward-looking growth,” the mayor said.

The city leadership reiterated its commitment to work hand-in-hand with national agencies, stakeholders, and the community to build a safer and more prosperous future for every Calambeño.
