Mayor Ross Rizal Leads United Response Amid Torrential Rains: Halts Mountain Developments, Launches Food-for-Work Program

Calamba City, Laguna — In a strong show of leadership and unity, Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal has mobilized the Calamba City government to take swift and decisive action in response to the heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon (habagat).

Following an emergency meeting with the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), Mayor Rizal immediately ordered the inspection of a halted subdivision development in Barangay Pansol and declared a moratorium on new mountain developments in Bucal, Pansol, and Bagong Kalsada. These measures aim to prevent further environmental degradation and ensure the safety of hillside communities.

In line with this, the local government has begun dredging operations in clogged waterways and the removal of illegal structures and houses obstructing the city’s natural drainage systems—actions critical in mitigating flood risks.

Mayor Rizal also visited evacuation centers in Barangay Barandal to personally deliver aid to residents who were evacuated pre-emptively. He then made rounds in Barangay Pansol to assess on-ground conditions and show support for affected communities.

To strengthen recovery efforts and support residents in vulnerable areas, the city launched a Food-for-Work Program across several barangays including Balagbag Araw, Mabato, Palingon, Lingga, Sampiruhan, Poblacion Dos, Laguerta, Majada Out, and Majada In. This initiative provides immediate relief while involving communities in crucial cleanup and rehabilitation work.

“In times of crisis, unity and compassion are our greatest strengths,” Mayor Rizal emphasized. “Together, we will rise and overcome.”

As challenging weather conditions persist, the Calamba City government continues its proactive response to protect lives, secure communities, and build resilience.
