Camp BGen Vicente P. Lim, Batangas – Eight out of ten persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who escaped from the Batangas Provincial Jail were successfully recaptured in a swift and coordinated hot pursuit operation conducted by the Sto. Tomas Component City Police Station (CCPS) and Ibaan Municipal Police Station on Monday, July 28, 2025.

According to initial reports, the jailbreak occurred at around 9:30 AM at the Batangas Provincial Rehabilitation Center located in Brgy. Malainin, Ibaan, Batangas. One of the inmates reportedly held a prison guard at knifepoint using an ice pick and seized his firearm. This triggered a commotion, which allowed nine other inmates to flee toward Brgy. Quilo in Ibaan.

Immediately, the Ibaan Municipal Police launched a pursuit operation, resulting in the arrest of three escapees by 10:44 AM in Sitio Burol, Brgy. Coliat, Ibaan. The captured individuals were identified by their aliases: “Cesar,” “Zieg,” and “Bob.” They are now in the custody of the Ibaan police.

By 1:30 PM, Sto. Tomas CCPS received intelligence indicating that five of the remaining escapees were onboard an ALPS bus traveling along the STAR Tollway. Acting swiftly, the police intercepted the bus at the northbound lane between the boundaries of Tanauan and Sto. Tomas City. The fugitives surrendered peacefully without resistance.

The five were identified as aliases “Armando,” “Norman,” “Dennis,” “Michael,” and “Lester.” Confiscated from them were a 9mm Llama pistol, live ammunition, a magazine, a balisong (butterfly knife), several keys, and cash amounting to ₱59,673.00. They are currently in the custody of the Sto. Tomas CCPS for documentation before being turned over to the appropriate authorities for re-detention.

Police Brigadier General Jack L. Wanky lauded the rapid and well-coordinated efforts of the Ibaan and Sto. Tomas police forces. “We will not stop pursuing those who run from the law. Above all, the safety of the public remains our top priority,” he said in a statement.

The arrested PDLs were previously charged with serious offenses including violations of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), robbery, homicide, direct assault, kidnapping, and murder.

Authorities are still tracking down the remaining two escapees. PBGEN Wanky urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities in their communities.
