Rep. Benjamin Agarao Jr. Slams Bribery Allegations, Vows Legal Action

Congressman Benjamin Agarao Jr., representative of Laguna’s 4th District, has strongly denied bribery allegations hurled against him by contractor spouses Pacifico and Cezarah Discaya during a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on alleged corruption in flood-control projects.

In a statement released Monday September 8, 2025, Agarao firmly refuted the accusations:

“I categorically deny the allegations of The Spouses Discaya that I asked money from them in exchange for projects in my district in Laguna. HINDI PO YAN TOTOO. WALA PO SILANG PROYEKTO SA AKING DISTRITO.”

The Discayas, in their sworn affidavit, had implicated several lawmakers and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), alleging that they were pressured to give “advance commissions” of up to 25% of project costs to secure infrastructure contracts. Agarao’s name appeared among those listed.

Visibly angered, Agarao declared his intent to take legal steps to defend his reputation:

“I am consulting my lawyers. I will sue them for libel and perjury. Hindi ko hahayaan na sirain nila ng ganun lang ang pangalan at reputasyon ko na iningatan ko ng mahabang panahon.”

He underscored that the Discayas have no active projects in his district, questioning the credibility of their claims.

As the Senate probe continues, Agarao joins other officials who have pushed back against the Discayas’ testimony. Legal experts predict a series of libel and perjury cases as those implicated move to protect their names.
