Mayor Ross Rizal Honors Calamba’s Pride: Alexa Mendoza Crowned Idol Kids Philippines Grand Champion

Calamba City, Laguna — The City of Calamba, led by Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal, proudly welcomed home Alexa Mendoza, the newly crowned Idol Kids Philippines Grand Champion, celebrating her as a true symbol of Calambeño talent and pride.

Mayor Ross Rizal and Vice Mayor Atty. Totie Lazaro, with LGUs personally congratulated the nine-year-old singing prodigy and awarded her ₱50,000 on behalf of the city government. The mayor praised Alexa for bringing immense honor and inspiration to Calamba, calling her victory “a testament to the boundless talent and determination of Calambeños.”

“Welcome home, Alexa — tunay kang ipinagmamalaki ng buong Calamba City!” Mayor Rizal said during the event.

Alexa Mendoza captivated the nation during the Idol Kids Philippines Final Showdown on September 28, where she earned a combined public vote and judges’ score of 98.88%, securing her historic win as the first-ever grand champion of the competition.

In the final round, she performed her original song “Maaabot Ko” and an impressive rendition of the Eraserheads classic “Ang Huling El Bimbo.” Her powerful performances earned praise from judges Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Gary Valenciano, Angeline Quinto, and Juan Karlos.

Aside from the national recognition, Alexa’s prizes include an exclusive contract with StarPop, a ₱1 million cash reward, and the opportunity to record her own EP, which is set for release on October 3 across all streaming platforms.

A proud Calambeña, Alexa previously auditioned for The Voice Kids but did not advance — a setback that only strengthened her resolve. Inspired by her family and motivated by dreams of helping them own a car, she persevered until her shining moment came.

Mayor Ross Rizal expressed his admiration for Alexa’s humility and determination, saying her story embodies the true spirit of Calamba — “resilient, talented, and full of hope.”

With this win, Alexa Mendoza not only etched her name in Philippine music history but also brought unparalleled pride to her hometown, proving that dreams do come true for those who dare to believe.
