The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced the temporary suspension of impounding light electric vehicles (LEVs)—including e-bikes and e-trikes—caught operating along national roads, starting Monday, December 1, 2025.

LTO Chief Markus Lacanilao said the agency will postpone the “strict enforcement” of the impounding policy until January 2, 2026, to give the public ample time to adjust to the regulations.

Kaya pansamantalang walang impounding operation habang nagpapatupad muna kami ng malawakang information drive upang bigyan ng sapat na panahon ang lahat na maunawaan at makasunod sa umiiral na regulasyon,”)
“In response to public concerns, I want to clarify that President Bongbong Marcos and Secretary Giovanni Lopez have heard your sentiments. That’s why there will be no impounding operations for now, as we focus on a widespread information drive to ensure everyone fully understands and complies with the existing regulations,” Lacanilao stated on Sunday.

The LTO is set to roll out intensive public awareness campaigns in the coming weeks to guide electric vehicle users on safety guidelines and road restrictions, particularly on national roads where such vehicles are not allowed.

The full enforcement of the rule—including the impounding of violators—will officially resume on January 2, 2026.
