NLEX Corporation and the Provincial Government of Pampanga have strengthened their partnership to enhance the province’s disaster resilience and preparedness as the rainy season approaches.

Around 40 representatives from key provincial offices, including the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, and Provincial Health Office, participated in a two-day Policy-Making on Disaster Management Workshop facilitated by the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF).

The workshop focused on identifying critical safety gaps and strengthening disaster management policies to ensure the protection of residents and communities during emergencies and natural disasters.

Pampanga, which has endured major natural calamities such as the 1990 Luzon earthquake and the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption, continues to reinforce its disaster preparedness programs as it grows into one of the country’s major economic centers.

“NLEX recognizes Pampanga as a vital link connecting Metro Manila to Central and Northern Luzon. Through this initiative, we aim to help strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience, ensuring the safety and well-being of communities while maintaining the reliability of this essential transport corridor that supports regional growth and connectivity,” said NLEX President and General Manager Luis S. Reñon.

Second District Board Member Atty. Claire Lim stressed that the safety of Kapampangans remains the province’s top priority.

“In situations where the lives and livelihoods of Kapampangans are at stake, we welcome this assistance because even if we are resilient, we still need outside support,” Lim said.

Meanwhile, First District Board Member Cherry Manalo expressed gratitude to NLEX and PDRF for helping strengthen the capabilities of provincial frontliners.

“We are grateful to NLEX and PDRF for helping upskill our frontliners. This workshop demonstrates our shared commitment to strengthening the province’s disaster management and ensuring we are better prepared to protect every Kapampangan,” Manalo said.

The partnership seeks to ensure efficient coordination between government agencies and NLEX, particularly in keeping major transportation routes accessible for emergency responders and the uninterrupted delivery of essential goods during disasters.

PDRF Center Director Arnel Capili highlighted the importance of proactive disaster management, emphasizing that effective preparedness requires balancing immediate emergency response efforts with long-term climate change adaptation strategies.

The initiative reflects a shared commitment between the public and private sectors to build safer, more resilient communities and safeguard Pampanga’s continued growth and development.
