Mekeni Food Corporation, the homegrown Filipino food brand from Porac, Pampanga, is bringing the flavors of the Philippines to Taiwan as it celebrates its 40th anniversary, strengthening its connection with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) while introducing its products to Taiwanese consumers.

The company’s initiatives in Taiwan include its launch at the OWWA OFW Global Center in Taipei, participation in the Jesus is Lord Olympics and Food Festival in southern Taiwan, and its presence at the 2026 World in Pingtung – International Market in Kaohsiung.

These activities highlight Mekeni’s continuing efforts to make Filipino food more accessible to Filipinos living abroad and share the country’s food culture with a wider international audience.

For many OFWs, familiar Filipino dishes bring back memories of family gatherings, childhood meals, and celebrations at home. Through its products, Mekeni aims to provide a comforting connection to these traditions, even for Filipinos living thousands of miles away from their families.

Mekeni President Pruds Garcia said the Taiwan initiative reflects the company’s commitment to the communities that have supported its growth over the past four decades.

“As we celebrate 40 years of Mekeni, we are reminded that our success is rooted in the families and communities that have welcomed us into their lives. Bringing our products closer to Filipinos in Taiwan is our way of making them feel that, even when they are far from home, a familiar taste can still bring them closer to the people and memories they cherish.”

Introducing Filipino Flavors to Taiwanese Consumers

Beyond serving the Filipino community, Mekeni’s participation in the 2026 World in Pingtung – International Market provided an opportunity to introduce its products to Taiwanese consumers and encourage cross-cultural appreciation through food.

The company showcased popular Filipino food products, including Picnic Hotdogs, Classic Tocino, and other household favorites. The event allowed local fairgoers to discover flavors that have long been part of Filipino meals and family traditions.

Mekeni’s presence at the international market also demonstrated how Filipino food can help introduce the country’s culture and culinary heritage to new audiences.

Marilou Uy, Mekeni’s assistant vice president for Human Resources and Exports, said the company’s participation in Taiwan represents an important step in expanding its international reach.

“Our participation in Taiwan allows us to bring Filipino food closer to our kababayans while introducing our products to new consumers. We see this as an opportunity to build meaningful connections, understand the market, and share the quality and flavors that Filipino families have come to know and love. We hope that every product experience becomes an invitation for more people to discover what Mekeni and Filipino food have to offer.”

Four Decades of Bringing Families Together

Founded in 1986 in Porac, Pampanga, Mekeni has grown from its local beginnings into a Filipino food brand serving consumers in the Philippines and international markets. The company currently has a presence in more than 25 countries.

Over the years, Mekeni has continued the legacy of its founders, Felix and Meding Garcia, while pursuing opportunities for growth and innovation in the food industry.

Its 40th anniversary celebration carries the theme **“May Kwento sa Bawat Timpla,”** highlighting the stories, memories, and experiences associated with food and the role it plays in bringing families and communities together.

The company’s Taiwan initiatives reflect this theme by connecting overseas Filipinos with familiar flavors while allowing Taiwanese consumers to discover Filipino food and traditions.

Bringing Filipino Food Beyond Philippine Shores

As Mekeni marks four decades in the industry, its activities in Taiwan underscore its ambition to strengthen its position as a globally trusted Filipino brand.

The company’s engagement with the Filipino community in Taipei and participation in the Pingtung international market represent two complementary goals: providing Filipinos abroad with a taste of home and introducing Filipino food to new markets.

Through these efforts, Mekeni continues to carry Filipino flavors and food traditions beyond Philippine shores, building connections among people and cultures through shared food experiences.

Forty years after its founding, the company remains focused on bringing the taste of home to Filipino families wherever they may be while inviting international consumers to discover the flavors of the Philippines.
