Sol Aragones Charts Bold Future for Laguna: Health, Education, and Tourism at the Core of Her Vision

Laguna, Philippines — Newly elected Laguna Governor Sol Aragones has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for the province, placing a strong focus on healthcare, education, and tourism. In her first media interview following her proclamation on May 13, Aragones emphasized inclusive growth and sustainable development aimed at improving the lives of every Lagunense.

Healthcare First: Free Medicines and Hospital Improvements

At the forefront of her agenda is the construction of 30 “Akay ni Sol” pharmacies across all cities and municipalities in Laguna. These outlets will provide free maintenance medicines to residents, helping ease the burden of healthcare costs for families.

“We will begin immediately upon taking office. These pharmacies will be accessible to all, and we will also renovate public hospitals to better serve patients and support our medical workers,” Aragones said.

She also plans to expand the province’s free health card program and improve services in district hospitals. The governor-elect issued a firm reminder to public hospital workers that unprofessional behavior will not be tolerated, signaling her commitment to dignified, people-centered care.

Education Without Barriers

In the education sector, Aragones is set to roll out an inclusive scholarship program designed to benefit even students who may not meet traditional academic standards.

“We will follow the principle of Sol’s Scholars — even if the grades are low, we will help. Our support will have minimal requirements because we believe every young Lagunense deserves a chance,” she said.

The initiative aims to address longstanding inequalities in access to education and will prioritize underprivileged youth across the province.

Tourism Powered by Heritage and Storytelling

Recognizing Laguna’s economic strength as the country’s first trillion-peso province, Aragones pledged to personally lead efforts to promote tourism, not just through natural attractions but by showcasing the stories and culture of local communities.

“We will craft a tourism master plan. Laguna’s 24 municipalities and 6 cities are filled with stories — but are these stories known beyond our borders or to the world? We need to fix that,” she said. “When tourism thrives, jobs are created and families have income.”

Her vision includes community-based tourism and strategic storytelling that honors the province’s identity, history, and talent.

A Triumphant Return to Public Service

After an unsuccessful gubernatorial run in 2022, Aragones made a successful comeback under the Akay ni Sol Partylist, highlighting a platform centered on accessible healthcare, quality education, and expanded social services.

She defeated strong contenders for the province’s top post, including Laguna 2nd District Rep. Ruth Mariano-Hernandez, outgoing Vice Governor Karen Agapay, and Santa Rosa Lone District Rep. Dan Fernandez.

Meanwhile, Atty. JM Carait won the vice gubernatorial race with 624,861 votes, running alongside Rep. Mariano-Hernandez.

With over 2.1 million registered voters, Laguna remains one of the vote-rich provinces in the Philippines. Under the leadership of Governor Sol Aragones, the province is poised for a new era of inclusive governance, community empowerment, and sustainable progress.
