CALAMBA CITY, LAGUNA — The City Government of Calamba commemorated the 138th Birth Anniversary of Brigadier General Vicente Lim, honoring his courage, leadership, and enduring legacy as one of the city’s most distinguished sons.


Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal led the tribute, last February 24, 2026, emphasizing the heroism and patriotism exemplified by the Calambeño general who dedicated his life to the service of the Filipino people, particularly during one of the most challenging periods in the nation’s history.


In his message, Mayor Rizal underscored Lim’s profound contributions not only as a military leader but also as a symbol of genuine public service and bravery.
“Si BGen. Vicente Lim ay nagsilbing inspirasyon hindi lamang bilang isang mahusay na pinuno sa larangan ng militar, kundi bilang isang huwaran ng tunay na paglilingkod at katapangan sa panahon ng pagsubok ng ating bansa. Ang kanyang mga ginawa at ipinaglaban ay patunay na ang pagiging makabayan ay hindi nasusukat sa salita lamang, kundi sa gawa at sakripisyong handang ialay para sa kapwa Pilipino.”


Born in 1888, Lim rose through the ranks to become one of the pioneering generals of the Philippine Army. He is remembered for his steadfast resistance and unwavering commitment to the country during World War II, ultimately sacrificing his life in the line of duty.


Mayor Rizal also called on the youth and fellow Calambeños to carry forward the values that General Lim embodied — unity, discipline, and love of country.


“Nawa’y magsilbi itong paalala sa ating lahat—lalo na sa mga kabataan—na ipagpatuloy ang diwa ng pagkakaisa, disiplina, at pagmamahal sa bayan na kanyang iniwan na pamana sa atin. Bilang mga Calambeño, ating ipagmamalaki at iingatan ang kanyang alaala, habang patuloy tayong naglilingkod para sa ikauunlad ng ating lungsod at ng ating bansa. “


As Calamba marks this significant milestone, city officials and residents alike reaffirm their pride in a hometown hero whose legacy continues to inspire generations. The commemoration stands as a reminder that true patriotism is measured not merely in words, but in action, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to the nation.
