QUEZON — TAMBAK na basura ang iniwan ng libo-libong deboto at turista matapos ang pagdagsa sa Bundok Banahaw sa lalawigan ng Quezon nitong Semana Santa.
Ayon sa Protected Area Management Office of Mts. Banahaw-San Cristobal Protected Landscape (PAMO) , umabot sa 42 sako ng basura ang nakolekta sa isinagawang clean-up drive noong Abril 4 sa Barangay Kinabuhayan sa Dolores, isa sa mga pangunahing daanan patungo sa bundok.
Sa kabila ng paulit-ulit na paalala ng mga awtoridad, marami pa ring pilgrims at mga mananampalataya ang hindi sumunod sa tamang pagtatapon ng basura habang isinasagawa ang kanilang panata.
Matatandaang bago pa man ang Semana Santa, nanawagan na ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources sa mga bibisita sa Banahaw na magdala ng sariling trash bag at iuwi ang kanilang basura upang mapanatili ang kalinisan ng lugar.
Ayon naman kay Dolores Mayor, Orlan Calayag, mahalagang mapanatili ang kaayusan at kalinisan bilang paggalang sa banal na bundok at sa komunidad.
Paalala ng PAMO, ang tunay na debosyon ay hindi lamang nasusukat sa panalangin kundi pati na rin sa pangangalaga sa kalikasan.
Matatandaan pa rin na isinara noong 2004 ang ilang bahagi ng Mount Banahaw upang makabawi mula sa matinding pinsala ng kapaligiran dulot ng dagsa ng mga bisita, at nananatiling limitado ang mga aktibidad sa ilang itinalagang lugar gaya ng Barangay Kinabuhayan at Sta. Lucia.
Sa kabila nito, patuloy pa ring dinarayo ang bundok na kilala bilang isang espiritwal na santuwaryo ng mga deboto mula sa iba’t ibang panig ng bansa.
