Cavite Lawmaker Surrenders Over Cyberlibel Charges, Posts Bail

Dasmariñas City, Cavite — Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga voluntarily surrendered to police authorities in Dasmariñas on Monday evening following the issuance of warrants related to multiple cyberlibel cases.

According to police reports, Barzaga presented himself at a local police station without incident, signaling his intention to face the charges filed against him. The cases stem from allegations of online statements deemed defamatory under Philippine cybercrime laws.

A court in Makati City set bail at ₱48,000 per count for the eight charges, amounting to a total of ₱384,000. Barzaga promptly posted bail, securing his temporary release while legal proceedings move forward.

Authorities from Philippine National Police confirmed that proper procedures were followed during the surrender and processing.

As of writing, Barzaga has yet to release a detailed public statement regarding the allegations. Legal analysts note that cyberlibel cases in the Philippines have increasingly drawn attention, especially when involving public officials and social media activity.

The case is expected to proceed in the coming weeks as the court begins hearings to determine the merits of the charges.
