Calamba City, Laguna – A fierce encounter in Brgy. Malbang, Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija, on the afternoon of June 26, 2024, resulted in the deaths of at least ten members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG). Among those neutralized were three high-ranking officers of the Komiteng Rehiyong Gitnang Luzon (KRGL). The operation involved personnel from the 2nd Special Action Battalion, Special Action Force (SAF), and the 84th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.

This significant engagement was part of a month-long, division-sized joint counterinsurgency operation conducted by the 7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army (7ID, PA) and supporting units. The mission focused on combat tracking and commando-type operations, aiming to prevent CTG forces from regrouping. This particular skirmish was a direct result of strategic planning and coordination between aerial operations and ground forces following a series of encounters in Aurora and Nueva Vizcaya provinces.

The operation achieved substantial success, leading to the seizure of multiple firearms and other items. The cache included three M14 rifles, six M16 rifles, an M16 rifle with an attached M203 grenade launcher, a low-powered firearm, subversive documents, and various personal belongings. These items are now in the custody of the 84th Infantry Battalion for documentation and proper disposition.

Following the clash, the deceased KRGL members were transported to Pantabangan Infirmary, where they were pronounced dead by the attending physician. Their bodies were later moved to Stairway Funeral for autopsy examinations and further arrangements. This operation marks a significant blow to the CTG’s leadership and operational capabilities in the region.

The success of this operation highlights the continued efforts of the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force (PNP SAF) and the Philippine Army in addressing the threats posed by CTGs. This coordinated effort underscores the importance of joint military and police operations in maintaining peace and order in areas affected by insurgency.

As the government forces continue their mission, the local communities remain hopeful for sustained peace and stability in Nueva Ecija and the surrounding regions. The operation serves as a testament to the dedication and bravery of the security forces in their relentless pursuit of a safer nation.
