SSS Brings Services Directly to Public Markets with ‘Palengke Caravan’

The Social Security System (SSS) has launched a weeklong Palengke Caravan, sending its mobile “e-Wheels” trucks to public markets and barangays across the Philippines.

The goal is to bring government services directly to people who cannot afford to leave their jobs or spend money on travel to visit a regular SSS branch.

Why Public Markets?

Many market vendors and informal workers find it hard to visit SSS offices because leaving their stalls means losing a day’s income.
“We are bringing government services directly to communities so people can access assistance closer to where they live and work,” said SSS President and CEO Robert Joseph M. De Claro.

Caravan Schedule

The caravan started in Metro Manila on May 25 and will move to the provinces later this week:
May 25: Metro Manila

May 27: Calapan (Oriental Mindoro), Legazpi (Albay), Silay City (Negros Occidental), and Siargao Island

May 28: Virac (Catanduanes)

Services Offered

The mobile units can handle almost any standard SSS transaction, including:

Getting an SSS number or updating your records

Applying for loans and benefits

Setting up online My.SSS accounts and resetting passwords

New Face-Scanning Tech for Pensioners

For the first time, the SSS is using facial authentication (face-scanning technology) on its mobile trips. This allows senior citizens and pensioners to complete their required annual check-in (ACOP) quickly and safely without traveling to a branch.

From January to April this year, the SSS e-Wheels program has already helped over 239,000 Filipinos in far-flung communities.
