“Nonsense” at sadyang pananakot sa mga bumabatikos sa gobyerno ang nakaambang non-bailable plunder case laban kay Senator Rodante Marcoleta.

Sinabi ito ni Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano sa isang ambush interview noong June 30, 2026 sa gitna ng kanyang pakikiisa sa protesta ng mahigit 10,000 Pilipino sa EDSA laban sa nagaganap na selective justice, pagbaluktot sa batas, at malakihang korapsyon sa gobyerno.

“Malinaw po sa akin na y’ung ginagawang ito ay panggigipit at injustice… Lutang na lutang na ito’y may kasamang chilling effect sa lahat ng tutuligsa sa gobyerno,” wika niya.

Nakatakdang magsampa ng kasong plunder at indirect bribery sa Sandiganbayan ang Office of the Ombudsman laban kay Marcoleta, isa sa mga miyembro ng Senate Minority Bloc, kaugnay ng umano’y P75 million campaign donations na natanggap nito.

Si Marcoleta ang nanguna sa imbestigasyon ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee sa bilyun-bilyong pisong flood control scam bilang pinuno ng komite sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni dating Senate President Francis Escudero. Pinalitan siya kalaunan ni Senator Panfilo Lacson, na nagsabing wala raw nakitang “mastermind” ang komite sa naturang korapsyon.

Ayon kay Cayetano, “nonsense” o walang saysay ang kaso laban kay Marcoleta. Dagdag pa niya, gusto lamang ng administrasyon na matutok ang atensyon ng publiko sa teknikal na debate kung pasok ba sa plunder law ang kaso, para malihis ang atensyon ng mga Pilipino mula sa “bigger picture.”

Ganito rin aniya ang ginawa ng administrasyon sa insidente noong May 13, 2026 nang may armadong tauhan ng National Bureau of Investigation na pumasok sa Senado. Sinadya aniya ng Department of Justice at ng Department of the Interior and Local Government na “lituhin” sa maliliit na detalye ang publiko para mapagtakpan ang tunay na isyu noon na pagpapahina sa kalayaan ng Senado.

“There’s a bigger picture, which is the numbers in the Senate,” aniya. “Whether ang pag-uusapan natin ay majority ng Senate, two-thirds sa impeachment, or Charter Change, may implikasyon po ito (case versus Marcoleta).”

Nakatakdang simulan ng Senado ang impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte sa July 6, kung saan magiging mahalaga ang pagdalo at boto ng bawat senador sa takbo ng paglilitis.

Sinabi ni Cayetano na inaasahan na ng kanilang grupo na mahaharap sila sa mga ganitong panggigipit dahil hindi pa man siya nagiging Senate President ay may mga umuugong nang balita na gagawan sila ng mga kaso kung hindi mananahimik.

“Hindi lang naman si Senator Marcoleta, napakarami nang pinopormahan na ganito,” aniya, sabay sabing February 4 pa lang ay nakatanggap na ang kanilang grupo ng impormasyon na gagamitin umano laban sa kanila ang mga kaso kapag sila na ang naging mayorya sa Senado.

“N’ung ako na umupo [bilang Senate President] at willing silang ipadala ang NBI na armado, not just once but twice sa Senado, tapos n’ung kitang-kita paano kinulong si Jinggoy, naging reality na sa amin ’to,” aniya.

Sa kabila nito, nanindigan ang Minority Leader na itutuloy ng kanilang grupo ang laban sa korapsyon at pagbaluktot sa batas, at para sa patas na hustisya.

“Lahat kami, we’re on borrowed time pero ipinasa-Diyos namin,” pahayag ni Cayetano. “We continue to fight in various ways. Sabi ko nga, sa (pamamagitan ng) pinaka-simple pero pinaka-effective na prayer, pag-aaral, paghahanda, pag-e-expose, pagre-research.”

“Lahat ng Pilipino ay dapat lumaban para sa hustisya at dapat labanan ang injustice,” dagdag niya.
