In a major breakthrough against insurgency, the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division of the Philippine Army successfully recovered an extensive arms cache belonging to the New People’s Army (NPA) in Balayan, Batangas. The operation, conducted by troops from the 59th Infantry “Protector” Battalion on Sunday, April 21, 2024, yielded a significant haul of weaponry and ammunition.

The focused military operations, carried out in Barangay Pooc, led to the discovery of a large cache consisting of various firearms and explosives. Among the recovered items were an M16 rifle, an incomplete Garand rifle, two Caliber .22 rifles, three 12-gauge shotguns, 166 live ammunition cartridges, three rifle grenades, 60 AK47 magazines, and approximately 1,000 meters of commercial detonating cord.

Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong, Commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, emphasized the importance of this recovery. He stated that the confiscation of such a substantial arms cache undoubtedly disrupts the capability of the Communist Terrorist Group to carry out their terror acts. Moreover, he highlighted that this achievement significantly enhances the security situation not only in Batangas but also contributes to broader efforts to address insurgency across the province.

The NPA, a guerilla organization engaged in armed conflict against the government, has been a persistent threat in various parts of the Philippines. The recovery of this arms cache represents a significant blow to their operational capacity and signifies a victory for the government’s counter-insurgency efforts.

Local authorities and residents have welcomed the news, expressing relief and gratitude to the Philippine Army for their relentless efforts to maintain peace and order in the region. The successful operation is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of the soldiers involved.

This development also underscores the government’s commitment to promoting development and progress in conflict-affected areas. By neutralizing threats posed by insurgent groups, the government aims to create a conducive environment for socio-economic growth and stability, ultimately benefiting the people of Batangas and the entire nation.
