QUEZON — Ibinahagi ni House Deputy Speaker Cong.David”Jayjay” Suarez kinatawan ng ikalawang Distrito ng Quezon ang kanyang panukala na mag-oobliga sa mga social media platforms katulad ng Facebook, TikTok, at Instagram na kumuha muna ng prangkisa bago sila makapag-operate sa Pilipinas.
Ayon sa House Bill No. 4789 o ang Social Media Platform Franchise Act, kakailanganin na magkaroon muna ng congressional franchise ang mga social media platforms para payagan sila sa Pilipinas na makapagnegosyo.
Katulad ito ng congressional franchise na ibinibigay sa mga media company, at kung wala ito, hindi sila makakapag-operate, katulad ng ABS-CBN.
“Social media is no longer just entertainment. It shapes our democracy, our economy, and the safety of our children. This bill closes oversight gaps, holds platforms accountable, and protects Filipino users from harm while fostering a fair digital marketplace,” ani Suarez.
Para makakuha ng prangkisa, dapat magkaroon ng presensya ang mga social media companies sa Pilipinas at managot sa ilalim ng batas ng Pilipinas.
Napapanahon na umano ayon sa mambabatas na bigyan ng prangkisa ang nasabing mga social media platforms dahil sa mga nangyaring karahasan sa iba’t-ibang eskwelahan.
