CALAMBA CITY, LAGUNA — Environmental experts and stakeholders gathered in Calamba City on Friday, October 30, 2026, for a forum tackling pressing environmental concerns, including solid waste management, plastic pollution, and the impacts of Super El Niño in the CALABARZON region.

Dubbed “Talakayan sa Kalikasan,” the program carried the theme “Talakayan sa Basura, El Niño, at Kalusugan: Solusyon sa CALABARZON” and was organized by the Confederation of Circular Economy Clubs of the Philippines (CCECP), in collaboration with the Circular Economy Club.

Held at Max’s Restaurant, Olivarez Plaza, Turbina, the forum provided a platform for discussions on sustainable environmental practices and science-based solutions to address the region’s growing environmental challenges.

Among the resource speakers was Virginia C. Cuevas, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), academician, and member of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), who discussed solid waste management, plastic pollution, and environmental health.

Corazon C. Gasapos, Chief of the Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement Division of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) CALABARZON, presented sustainable solutions to the garbage crisis, emphasizing the importance of responsible waste management and environmental protection.

Meanwhile, Bernadeth T. Lucillo, Senior Weather Specialist of the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA), discussed the impacts of Super El Niño in CALABARZON and the need for communities to adapt and adjust to changing climate conditions.

The discussions were followed by an open forum and audience interaction, allowing participants to raise questions, share insights, and express environmental concerns. A media roundtable also provided an opportunity to further discuss possible solutions and collaborative actions.

The activity underscored the importance of cooperation among academic institutions, government agencies, communities, businesses, and environmental advocates in addressing waste management, climate change, and public health concerns.

Established in 2024, CCECP is a Securities and Exchange Commission-registered environmental non-government organization and a member of the International Circular Economy Club network. It promotes education, research, environmental advocacy, and community-based initiatives to advance a circular economy that prioritizes resource efficiency, waste prevention, reuse, and recycling.

Through initiatives such as Talakayan sa Kalikasan, CCECP seeks to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage collective action toward a cleaner, more sustainable, and climate-resilient CALABARZON.
