Senator Bong Go has urged government leaders to prioritize poverty alleviation in light of rising inflation, reaffirming his commitment to uplifting the lives of the poor.

In a video message during his Malasakit Team’s relief effort for indigent residents at the municipal gymnasium of Nagcarlan, Laguna earlier this week, Go emphasized the importance of creating more opportunities for underprivileged Filipinos.

“Let us help our poor countrymen, the helpless and the hopeless. Who will help them if not us, fellow Filipinos,” Go stated in Filipino to the 930 indigent residents gathered.

Go’s call to action follows recent findings indicating that inflation is the most pressing issue for the majority of adult Filipinos in the first quarter of 2024. He highlighted the significant burden of rising prices on daily life and the urgent need for relief measures.

“The rising prices of basic commodities are a significant burden on our people, especially the poor. We need to take concrete steps to mitigate this issue and provide relief to our fellow citizens,” Go stressed.

The senator also called on public servants to focus on job creation and policies that enhance economic opportunities.

“We must work together to ensure that every Filipino has a chance to lead a dignified life. This includes creating more jobs, increasing wages, and making basic necessities more accessible,” said Go, an adopted son of the Calabarzon region.

During the relief effort, disadvantaged residents received snacks, vitamins, and masks, while some also received mobile phones, shirts, basketballs, volleyballs, and shoes. Additionally, Mayor Elmor Vita facilitated financial support from the national government for the residents.

In his concluding remarks, Go reaffirmed his dedication to supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life for Filipinos.

“Let us continue to work together for the betterment of our communities and the prosperity of our nation,” Go urged.
