HINILING ni Senador Lito Lapid sa pamahalaan na magpatupad ng price control sa Canlaon City matapos magbuga ng abo ang Mount Kanlaon sa Negros Island nitong Lunes.
Base sa pagtaya ng PHIVOLCS, sinabi ni Lapid na posibleng muling sumabog ang bulkang Kanlaon sa mga susunod na araw na itinaas na sa alert level 2.
Sa ilalim ng batas, sinabi ni Lapid na maaring magpatupad ang lokal na pamahalaan ng price control para hadlangan ang pagsasamantala ng mga tusong negosyante sa panahon ng kalamidad.
Kinatigan ni Lapid ang pahayag ni Canlaon City Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas na magdedeklara sila ng state of calamity matapos sumabog ang bulkan.
“Kailangan ng ating mga apektadong kababayan ng kagyat na tulong sa pamamagitan ng mabilis na paglalabas ng sapat na pondo para sa kanilang pangangailangan, lalo na sa sektor ng kalusugan at agrikultura,” ayon sa Senador.
Kasunod nito, pinayuhan ni Lapid ang mga lokal na pamahalaan sa Negros Occidental na maghanda sa mas malalang sitwasyon kung patuloy sa pag-aalburuto ang bulkan dahil sa banta nito sa kalusugan at buhay ng mga tao.
Ayon kay Lapid, dating Governor ng Pampanga ng pumutok ang Mount Pinatubo noong June 15, 1991, kailangan ang pagtutulungan ng mga emergency response agency, hospitals, pharmacies at iba pang ahensya ng pamahalaan.
Nang pumutok ang bulkang Pinatubo, umabot sa 20-libong katao ang inilikas, 10-libong katao ang nawalan ng tahanan at 847 ang nasawi.
Naitala ng PHIVOLCS ang 43 volcanic earthquakes at namonitor ang paglabas ng 799 tonelada ng sulfuric acid dioxide na umabot hanggang sa limang kilometro ang taas.
As of June 5, umabot sa 1,349 katao naman ang nailikas mula sa Bago,a Carlota, Moises Padilla, Pontevedra at La Castillana habang halos 200 pamilya naman ang pwersahang nailikas mula sa limang barangay sa Canlaon City.
Naranasan naman ang ashfall sa Bago City, La Carlota City, La Castellana, Negros Occidental at Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.
