On June 21, 2024, the SAF held the closing ceremony for SAF Commando Course Class 123-2023, known as “SULTANS.” Senator Alan Peter Cayetano served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker at the event, which took place at Headquarters SAF, Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

During the ceremony, awards were presented to top-performing graduates, and they donned the prestigious SAF Black Beret and received the Commando Badge. The 161 students of Class 123-2023 completed 12 months of rigorous training. Senator Cayetano was honored with an honorary membership in recognition of his unwavering support for the Special Action Force.

In an interview, Cayetano emphasized the need for continuous support for the police, not only in terms of training and equipment but also in improving their allowances and benefits. He stated, “We must constantly support our police force, not just in training and equipment but also in ensuring their focus remains on their duties without financial distractions. I will continue to advocate for increased allowances and benefits for our police, military, coast guard, firefighters, and BJMP personnel.”

Cayetano also touched on the importance of infrastructure, peace and order, and electricity costs in attracting investors to the Philippines, highlighting these as key concerns for businessmen.

For the first time, despite usually avoiding media questions regarding the Senate Building project, Cayetano was compelled to provide an update. He explained that the project is currently under review and fact-finding, and he refrained from commenting further to ensure a fair process.

Addressing the challenge in the education sector, Cayetano stressed the importance of selecting an ideal replacement for VP Sara Duterte as Secretary of Education. “And we have to spend more not only more money but must wisely” in the Department of Education to tackle the significant issues it faces.

On the West Philippine Sea dispute, Cayetano acknowledged that both the Philippine and Chinese economies are affected. He expressed his hope for a diplomatic resolution to the situation.

When asked about the divorce bill, Cayetano highlighted the importance of discussing the strengthening of marriages alongside divorce and annulment. He noted, “We need to discuss strengthening marriages together with divorce and annulment because the family remains the fundamental unit of our country. While acknowledging that some marriages are irreparable due to abuse, we must approach the topics of divorce, annulment, and family strengthening collectively for better understanding.”

In his address, Senator Cayetano emphasized unity and a shared vision for meaningful change. He highlighted the importance of loving the law and having a common purpose as Filipinos. The event underscored SAF’s commitment to developing highly skilled personnel dedicated to protecting the nation.
