Government forces successfully recovered hidden war materiel in Labo, Camarines Norte, thanks to a tip from a civilian. The 16th Infantry “Maglilingkod” Battalion, 85th Infantry “Sandiwa” Battalion, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) acted swiftly upon receiving relevant information about the location of buried war materials last July 13, 2024.
The buried cache, believed to belong to the New People’s Army, included five drums of explosives and 21 pieces of detonating cords. These materials are commonly used in manufacturing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Major General Roberto Capulong, Commander of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division, emphasized the importance of this timely recovery. It thwarted the rebels’ plans to terrorize communities in the area. He expressed gratitude to the civilians who provided the crucial information, highlighting their strong support for the military.
Major General Capulong also encouraged remaining armed group members to surrender and take advantage of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). The program provides support and opportunities for former rebels to reintegrate into society.
