The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has confirmed that Senator Robinhood Padilla is now being considered a “person of interest” in connection with the reported disappearance or unknown whereabouts of ICC-wanted Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.


During an interview on ANC’s Dateline Philippines, NBI Director Melvin Matibag clarified that authorities are currently looking into individuals who may have knowledge of dela Rosa’s location following his sudden departure from Senate protective custody.


“To a certain extent as to the disappearance of Sen. Bato, sila talaga yung persons of interest. Pero kung i-pursue yung investigating, we’re not yet on that level,” Matibag said.


Aside from Padilla, Matibag also mentioned Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and members of the Senate security group among those who could possibly provide information regarding dela Rosa’s whereabouts.


The development comes amid growing national attention after the International Criminal Court (ICC) reportedly issued an arrest warrant against dela Rosa in connection with alleged crimes against humanity tied to the Duterte administration’s anti-drug campaign.


Reports indicated that dela Rosa had initially stayed under Senate protection before eventually leaving the premises under unclear circumstances, prompting questions from authorities and the public alike.


Despite the NBI’s statement, Matibag emphasized that being identified as a “person of interest” does not automatically imply criminal liability, but simply means investigators believe certain individuals may possess information relevant to the case.


As of writing, neither Senator Robinhood Padilla nor Senator Ronald dela Rosa has issued a detailed public statement regarding the NBI’s latest remarks.
