San Pedro City, known as the hub of the Philippines’ most fragrant sampaguita flowers, embarked on an exhilarating journey as it commenced the highly anticipated Sampaguita Festival 2024. The grand Media Launch event marked the beginning of a five-day extravaganza from May 1 to 5, under the theme “Sampaguita: Heart of Unity,” celebrating the city’s rich cultural heritage and the enchanting aroma of its national flower.

Mayor Art Mercado spearheaded the ceremonial launch, emphasizing the festival’s paramount importance in boosting local tourism and reviving San Pedro’s cultural legacy. Against the backdrop of challenges in meeting sampaguita demands, Mayor Mercado underscored the city’s commitment to revitalizing the sampaguita industry, thereby providing additional livelihood opportunities for its residents.

Jhe-Rico Sam S. Colina, Head of the City Information Office and Tourism, shed light on San Pedro’s pivotal role as the leading supplier of sampaguita flowers. Despite facing hurdles, including sourcing from San Pedro due to its unmatched quality, the city is actively promoting local production through the establishment of numerous sampaguita nurseries.

The public is cordially invited to partake in the festivities of the San Pedro Sampaguita Festival 2024, as Mayor Art Mercado emphasized during the press conference on April 22. The festival’s primary objective is to rejuvenate the sampaguita industry, bolstering livelihoods and promoting local tourism while preserving the city’s cultural heritage.

Under the banner of “Sampaguita: Heart of Unity,” the festival boasts an eclectic lineup of activities, ranging from the San Pedro Weekend Market to Color Fun Run, Street Dancing, and Sampaguita Product Fair and Exhibit. Additionally, new attractions such as the Cultural Forum for National Heritage Month and Sampaguita Tree Planting Activity have been introduced this year.

Mayor Mercado reiterated the festival’s pivotal role in spotlighting San Pedro’s heritage as the premier producer of the most aromatic variety of sampaguita in the country.

Jhe-Rico Sam S. Colina further emphasized the city’s proactive measures in revitalizing the sampaguita industry, exemplified by the recent surge in sampaguita farms across San Pedro. Despite supply challenges, the festival continues undeterred, serving as a testament to the community’s resilience and dedication to its cultural roots.
