CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — The City of Calamba commemorated the 165th birth anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal with a meaningful celebration during the Calambagong Buhayani Festival 2026, highlighting his enduring legacy of patriotism, education, unity, and service.

During the commemoration program, Roseller ‘Ross’ H. Rizal emphasized the importance of carrying Rizal’s teachings into modern times, saying that the hero’s principles continue to inspire Calamba’s journey toward progress and nation-building.

“Ngayong araw, ating ginugunita ang ika-165 kapanganakan ni Dr. Jose P. Rizal—ang ating pambansang bayani at ipinagmamalaking anak ng Calamba.”

Mayor Rizal said Rizal’s life remains a reminder that real change begins with love for country, the value of education, and resilience in overcoming challenges.

“Ang kanyang buhay ay patunay na ang tunay na pagbabago ay nagsisimula sa pagmamahal sa bayan, pagpapahalaga sa edukasyon, at katatagan sa harap ng mga pagsubok. Hanggang ngayon, nananatiling gabay ang kanyang mga aral at adhikain sa ating patuloy na paglalakbay tungo sa mas maunlad at mas makabayang Calamba.”

As part of the Calambagong Buhayani Festival 2026, the mayor encouraged residents to embody the spirit of heroism in their own ways by serving others and promoting unity in the community.

“Sa pagdiriwang ng Calambagong Buhayani Festival 2026, nawa’y magsilbi tayong mga makabagong bayani sa ating sariling paraan—nagkakaisa, naglilingkod, at nagsusulong ng kabutihan para sa kapwa at sa ating lungsod.”

The city also welcomed Senator JV Ejercito as the program’s guest of honor, whose presence was recognized for adding inspiration to the celebration and reinforcing the values Rizal fought for.

“Maraming salamat, Senator JV Ejercito sa kanyang pagpapaunlak bilang panauhing pandangal sa ating programa. Ang inyong pakikiisa ay nagbigay ng higit na inspirasyon sa pagdiriwang na ito at sa patuloy nating pagsusulong ng mga adhikaing ipinaglaban ni Gat Jose Rizal.”

Mayor Rizal concluded by expressing hope that the life and teachings of Rizal would continue to guide Calambeños in building a more progressive, patriotic, and compassionate city.

“Nawa’y manatiling gabay sa ating mga puso at isipan ang kanyang buhay at mga aral upang sama-sama nating maitaguyod ang isang mas maunlad, makabayan, at makataong Calamba.”
