CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — A landmark symbolizing history, culture, and community pride has officially opened its doors as the City Government of Calamba formally inaugurated the new City Plaza in line with the celebration of Buhayani Festival 2026.
The newly opened plaza is envisioned as more than just a public space. Designed to reflect the city’s rich heritage, the project aims to serve as a symbol of Calamba’s identity while embracing its continuing progress and modernization.
Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal highlighted the significance of the project during the inauguration ceremony.
Mayor Ross Rizal said, “Kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng Buhayani Festival 2026, pormal nating binasbasan at pinasinayaan ang bagong City Plaza—isang proyektong sumasalamin sa mayamang kasaysayan, kultura, at pagkakakilanlan ng ating lungsod.”
According to the mayor, the design of the new City Plaza drew inspiration from Calamba’s Historical District, preserving the city’s heritage while creating a modern public space for residents and visitors alike.
“Hango sa disenyo ng Historical District ng Calamba, ang bagong City Plaza ay hindi lamang isang pampublikong lugar kundi isang paalala ng ating pinagmulan at inspirasyon sa ating patuloy na pag-unlad bilang isang makabago ngunit makasaysayang lungsod,” Rizal added.
City officials hope the newly inaugurated plaza will become a place where people can gather, celebrate, and strengthen community ties while fostering pride among Calambeños.
“Nawa’y magsilbi itong sentro ng pagkakaisa, pagdiriwang, at pagmamalaki ng bawat Calambeño. Sama-sama nating pagyamanin at pangalagaan ang bagong puso ng ating lungsod,” the mayor said.
