The Philippine Authorities successfully conducted a major drug bust in Manila, resulting in the arrest of a high-value drug personality and the seizure of Php3.4 million worth of shabu.

On August 7, 2024, at approximately 2:30 in the afternoon, a meticulously planned joint operation was carried out by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office IV-A Special Enforcement Team 1, PDEA Regional Office-National Capital Region Special Enforcement Team 1, and the Manila Police District’s Police Stations 11 and 14. The operation took place in front of a salon in Barangay 383, Quiapo, Manila.

The suspect, identified as Maymay Bongcarao y Mimbalawag, 37, is a female, married vendor, and a resident of Barangay 805, San Andres Bukid, Manila. She has been under surveillance for some time, and her arrest is seen as a significant success in the ongoing battle against illegal drugs in the region.

During the operation, authorities managed to recover more or less 500 grams of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) from Bongcarao. The confiscated illegal drugs have an estimated street value of Php3,400,000.00. In addition to the shabu, the operatives also seized buy-bust money used during the operation.

Bongcarao is now facing charges for violating Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law imposes severe penalties on individuals involved in the sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution, and transportation of dangerous drugs and/or controlled precursors and essential chemicals.

Following her arrest, Bongcarao was detained at the PDEA Regional Office IV-A Detention Facility located in Barangay Sinalhan, Santa Rosa City.

The successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of Philippine authorities to combat the illegal drug trade and bring those responsible to justice. The arrest of a high-value target like Bongcarao serves as a stern warning to other individuals involved in similar activities that the law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and resolute in their efforts to eradicate illegal drugs from the community.
