Senator Imee Marcos Declares Independence Amid Policy Differences

Senatorial candidate Imee Marcos has officially distanced herself from “ALYANSA” led by her own brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., citing irreconcilable differences in principles and governance decisions.

In a strong statement, Marcos revealed that her initial findings—set to be disclosed in the coming days—suggest that certain actions taken by the administration contradict her core beliefs.

“Due to these developments, I can no longer campaign or stand on the same stage with the members of the alliance. As I have stated since the beginning of the election period, I will remain independent. Beyond political gain, the sovereignty of our nation and true justice for every Filipino must prevail,” she asserted.

Marcos also raised concerns about the government’s repeated invocation of executive privilege and the sub judice rule, particularly during last week’s Senate hearing. She criticized officials for allegedly using these legal principles to withhold crucial information, even in instances where they were not directly applicable.

“They keep insisting that the country is merely adhering to international agreements. But their blatant concealment of the truth only strengthens suspicions that the Constitution may have been violated and our sovereignty compromised in the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” she added.

Her decision to break away from the alliance marks a significant political development, as it underscores a growing rift within the Marcos administration amid rising controversies.
