Mayor Ross Rizal Conducts Sunday Inspection in Pansol After Mudslide Flooding

Calamba City Mayor Roseller “Ross” H. Rizal personally visited Barangay Pansol on Sunday, July 13, 2025, to assess the aftermath of the mudslide and flash flooding caused by a sudden downpour on Saturday afternoon, July 12. Despite it being the weekend, the mayor promptly responded to the concerns of affected residents and inspected the most severely impacted areas.

“Matapos ang matinding buhos ng ulan kahapon na nagdulot ng pagbaha sa Barangay Pansol, agad tayong bumisita at nagsagawa ng inspeksyon kasama ang CENRO, CDRRM, City Development Office, Engineering, at POSO.

Inatasan natin ang agarang pag-aayos ng drainage system at kalsada sa Lago Vista, at ipinatigil ang ongoing construction sa Acres Subdivision na siyang naging sanhi ng pagbaha ng putik.

Patuloy tayong magbabantay at kikilos upang masiguro ang kaligtasan at kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan,” said Mayor Rizal, stressing the importance of swift and decisive action during emergencies.

The sudden downpour triggered mudflow and flooding in various parts of Pansol, prompting an immediate response from the city government. Mayor Rizal was accompanied by key personnel from the City Engineering Office, City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO). The team is now working on both short-term measures and long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In a Facebook live update, POSO Head Conrado Masongsong revealed that the subdivision development believed to have caused the mudslide had been issued a permit under the previous administration. “Ito ho ay matagal nang may permit. Hindi pa panahon ni Mayor Ross Rizal ay may permit na ito—ibinigay noong previous administration,” Masongsong said.

The clearing of trees on a nearby mountain—part of the said development—has been identified as a major contributing factor to the mudslide and flooding. The lack of proper environmental safeguards has now led to serious consequences for the residents of Pansol.

Mayor Rizal also visited several affected households to personally assess the damage and listen to the concerns of the community. He assured residents that the local government will not only implement the necessary interventions but also hold accountable those responsible for the environmental degradation.
