Cayetano muling itinulak ang Labor Commission para mabawasan ang wage gap

Muling itinulak ni Senador Alan Peter Cayetano nitong Huwebes ang pagbuo ng Executive-Legislative Labor Commission (LabCom), na aniya’y susi para maresolba ang malaking agwat ng sahod sa bansa.

Nangyari ang panawagan kasabay ng pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Labor, Employment, and Human Resources Development nitong September 4, 2025 kung saan tinalakay ang national minimum wage, posibleng umento sa sahod, at ang pagsusulong ng living wage.

“Kung love natin ang Pilipinas, kung love natin ang laborers, [at] kung gusto nating ang mga overseas Filipino workers kapag dumating ang araw ay hindi na kailangang mag abroad, we have to have a labor commission,” wika ni Cayetano.

Isa sa mga pangunahing panukala ni Cayetano para sa 20th Congress ang LabCom Act of 2025 (Senate Bill No. 104). Layunin nitong bumuo ng komisyon na magdidisenyo ng wage policies batay sa partikular na industriya at rehiyon para maiwasan ang malalaking wage hike bills na madalas maipit sa Kongreso.

Sa panukala, tinutukoy ang living wage bilang ganito: “the amount of family income needed to provide for the family’s food and non-food expenditures with sufficient allowance for savings or investments for social security so as to enable the family to live and maintain a decent standard of human existence beyond mere subsistence level, taking into account all of the family’s physiological, social and other needs.”

“Y’un nga ang problema sa legislative wage hike. Hindi magkaroon ng consensus. The LabCom will not talk in generalities. It will come out industry specific,” dagdag pa ni Cayetano.

Kasama sa bubuuing komisyon ang mga kinatawan mula sa Kongreso, Senado, at mga pangunahing ahensya tulad ng NEDA, DTI, DOLE, at DMW. Kalahok din dito ang sektor ng negosyo, MSMEs, at mga manggagawa.

Ayon kay Cayetano, makakatulong ang istrukturang ito para magkaroon ng patas at pangmatagalang wage standards sa iba’t ibang industriya at rehiyon.

“This will help end the endless stream of Filipinos who are forced to leave their homes and families for what they hope would be greener economic pastures continue,” aniya.
