Pagbabago sa Senado dapat humantong sa tunay na reporma

Iginiit ni Senator Alan Peter Cayetano nitong Lunes na ang pagbabago sa liderato ng Senado ay hindi lang dapat mauwi sa bilang-bilangan ng boto kundi magsilbing daan sa tunay na reporma.

Naganap ang reorganisasyon nitong September 8 matapos mahalal si Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III bilang bagong Senate President kapalit ni Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, na nagbigay-daan para muling ayusin ang papel ng majority at minority sa Senado.

“Given the call of the time, given ang mga pangyayari the last few months, given y’ung issues sa corruption that’s tearing our country apart, it’s urgent that we not only have a functioning Senate but that the majority and minority will play its part,” wika ni Cayetano sa isang media interview.

Binigyang diin niya na ang totoong kalaban ay hindi kapwa politiko kundi ang korapsyon.

“Ang kalaban dito ay both the system that slowly crept in pero grabe talaga ang nangyayari. So, politics should be temporary but we should have real change, y’ung transformation talaga,” wika niya.

Nang tanungin kung siya na ba ang uupo bilang minority floor leader, sinabi ni Cayetano na nagpapatuloy pa ang konsultasyon sa pagitan ng mga senador.

Aniya, bukas pa ang usapan sa bubuo ng minority dahil magkakaiba ang paninindigan ng mga senador at nilinaw niyang ang mga hindi lumagda sa resolusyon pabor kay Sotto, kabilang siya, ay puwede pang sumama sa minority.

“Ang bilang ko, 8, 9 or 10 [ang interesado]. Kasi nga it’s a majority-minority dito sa Senate pero y’ung political leanings outside the Senate iba-iba, very diverse talaga,” wika niya.

Kasabay nito, binalaan niya na kung hindi matutugunan ang isyu ng korapsyon, lalo lamang itong lalala at babalik sa mas malalang anyo.

“What’s important now is makapag-focus tayo how do we have real change in our country na hindi y’ung parang mawawala yung corruption tapos babalik na mas grabe,” wika niya.
