Porac, Pampanga — Members of the South Luzon media recently visited Mekeni Food Corporation, one of the country’s most globally recognized food manufacturers, to witness firsthand the inspiring journey of a Filipino family-owned enterprise that has grown from humble beginnings into an international success story.

In a warm welcome dubbed “MALAOS CO PU,” Mekeni President Prudencio “Pruds” Garcia shared the company’s remarkable transformation — from a small backyard business founded in 1986 by his parents, Felix and Medicia Garcia, both public school teachers, into a world-class enterprise exporting Filipino-made food products to over a dozen countries worldwide.

“Ang Mekeni ay isang homegrown business na sinimulan ng aming mga magulang. Ngayon, ipinagpapatuloy namin ito kaming limang magkakapatid upang higit na makatulong sa mga pangarap ng bawat empleyado para sa kanilang sarili, pamilya, at komunidad,” Garcia said.



Garcia recalled their humble beginnings, selling ice candy as children during community sports events — an experience that, unbeknownst to them, was preparing them for greater responsibilities in life and business.

Nearly four decades later, Mekeni stands as a symbol of Filipino excellence and perseverance. The company’s success, according to Garcia, lies not just in its products but in its people.

“Our brand is not the product — it’s our people who stood up from the start. Sa kanila nagmumula ang aming lakas at inspirasyon. Sa bawat timpla, may kuwento ng sipag, determinasyon, at pangarap,” he added.



Among the company’s proudest stories is that of Kenneth Palma, a production line personnel who graduated magna cum laude while working at Mekeni — a testament to the company’s commitment to nurturing not only careers but also dreams.

“In Mekeni, we have a lot of good stories to tell,” Garcia said. “It is how we contribute to the community — by uplifting people and helping them grow.”
