On September 21, 2024, Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), actively participated in the International Coastal Cleanup 2024 organized by the Santa Rosa City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO). The event took place at the Laguna de Bay shoreline in Barangay Caingin, Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

A total of 42 employees from various MPT South departments joined the cleanup to show their support and dedication to this environmental initiative. The International Coastal Cleanup gathered over a thousand volunteers from different companies and organizations, united in addressing the growing issue of plastic and waste pollution that is affecting coastal areas, waterways, and surrounding communities. The event, held annually, aims to remove waste from coastlines and raise public awareness about the importance of protecting water bodies like rivers, seas, lakes, and oceans.

MPT South employees were assigned to clean Point B of the Barangay Caingin shoreline, where they collected trash and debris. The cleanup efforts at Point B resulted in the collection of over 2,016.5 kilograms of waste. In total, volunteers filled 591 sacks of waste along the Laguna de Bay shoreline, consisting of 126.5 kg of PET bottles, 611 kg of plastic laminates, 2,938 kg of residual waste, and 314.3 kg of special waste, amounting to a total of 3,989.8 kg of trash.

This coastal cleanup is part of MPT South’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, emphasizing the need to protect and preserve the natural environment in the areas they serve. Through this program, the company demonstrates its commitment not only to improving transportation through its expressways but also to safeguarding the ecosystems surrounding its communities.

“As a company deeply connected with communities across South Luzon, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. We look forward to always being a part of the International Coastal Cleanup. MPT South is dedicated to being a strong advocate for environmental protection and sustainability,” said Arlette V. Capistrano, Vice President for Communication and Stakeholder Management at MPT South.

MPT South continues to support environmental initiatives and sustainable practices, aiming to contribute to both community development and environmental awareness. The company remains committed to advancing environmental protection efforts, reinforcing its role as a responsible corporate citizen. MPT South, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), manages infrastructure assets like the CALAX and CAVITEX toll roads, and its parent company’s portfolio includes major expressways such as NLEX, SCTEX, and CCLEX in Cebu.
