Three CTG Members Captured in Apayao Raid; Firearms and Explosives Confiscated

Conner, Apayao, October 8, 2024 – A coordinated raid by government forces in Sitio Kuhuban, Barangay Manag, Conner, Apayao, led to the arrest of three Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members and the discovery of an arsenal of weapons and explosives. The operation, conducted by the 111th Special Action Company of the 11th Special Action Battalion, Special Action Force (SAF), and the 53rd Military Intelligence Company (MICO), Philippine Army, marks a significant blow to insurgent operations in the region.

The arrested individuals were identified by their aliases: “Sam,” a key leader within the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC); “Tanya,” a member of the Regional Special District Group (RSDG); and “Annie,” who is linked to the Regional Youth Sector (RYS). These individuals are believed to have played pivotal roles in the CTG’s insurgent activities in the Ilocos-Cordillera region.

During the operation, authorities seized a cache of firearms, explosives, and communication devices. The haul included two M16A1 assault rifles, two short magazines with ammunition, hand grenades, TNT explosives, 40mm high-explosive grenades, and a rifle grenade. These items were believed to be used for planned attacks and other insurgent activities.

In addition to the weapons, the authorities also confiscated several communication devices, including mobile phones, external hard drives, SD memory cards, and micro SIM cards. These are expected to provide valuable intelligence on the group’s operations and communications with other CTG cells in the region.

The successful operation came after extensive intelligence gathering and coordination between the SAF and the Philippine Army. Officials praised the collaboration between the two forces, emphasizing the importance of unity in the fight against insurgency in the country.

Following the arrest, the suspects were transferred to the custody of the 503rd Infantry Brigade (503BDE), Philippine Army, in Tabuk City, Kalinga. They will undergo custodial debriefing to extract information that may lead to further operations targeting other CTG cells in the region.

The operation underscores the government’s continued efforts to weaken the CTG’s influence and operational capabilities in Northern Luzon. Authorities have vowed to intensify their counter-insurgency efforts in the coming months to bring lasting peace to the region.
